Professional Translation Techniques
Description
The transfer of texts from an original language to a target language, i.e. the direct translation from a second language (L2) to the mother tongue (L1) and vice versa, is essential in an Master's Programme in English Studies. This subject aims to explain the different techniques for translating texts of various kinds and their transfer into Spanish.
The course will offer a theoretical part of the world of translation, taking into account both historical and methodological aspects. Likewise, practical examples of texts of a varied nature, from novels, short stories, poems, jokes, songs, etc., will be presented. The student will also undertake translation practice in the classroom in order to solve different problems based on the various approaches or methods studied in the course
The course content consists of the following thematic units:

‣ Unit 3: Literary Translation. Case Studies (Fiction)
‣ Unit 4: Identification of Translation Procedures in a Bilingual Document

‣ Unit 6: Translation Practice of King James style with a Religious Text
