Description
This course examines the situation of a group of countries that were former colonies of the British Empire. The aim is to provide the student with a broad scope with which to confidently face the analysis of global cultural phenomena related to the Anglophone world.
The course is divided into three thematic blocks:
Block I – Contemporary Ireland
‣ Recent history– from the decades of autarchy to the 'Celtic Tiger'
‣ Culture and identity matters
Block II – South African History and Society
‣ Recent history of South Africa
‣ Conflict and future prospects
Block III – Modern Australia
‣ A troubled past
‣ Postcolonial approaches to Australian society.
