English Teaching Methodology

Description

The contents proposed in this course, both declarative and procedural, contribute to the training of future English language teachers so that they can solve and handle teaching-learning situations successfully. This course aims to provide students with the necessary tools to apply theoretical knowledge and practical training to handle teaching-learning situations; to develop skills to plan and implement teaching didactic units; and to access updated sources of information on the regulation of the foreign language (FL) curriculum within the Spanish context

   The course is divided into four thematic blocks:

Block  I – Introduction to EFL learning/acquisition processes. Traditional approaches in FLT

    ‣ A brief history of language teaching– background

    ‣ Theoretical orientations to L2 approaches and methods

    ‣ Traditional approaches and methodologies in FLT

Block  II – Recent approaches to ELT

    ‣ The post-communicative period: Eclecticism

    ‣ Recent and current approaches to ELT

Block  III – Methodology for oral and written comprehension and production in L2

    ‣ Communicative competence

    ‣ Linguistic skills

    ‣ Oral communicative competence

    ‣ Written communicative competence

    ‣ Integrated skills

Block  IV – Legislation applied to L2 language teaching and elaboration of didactic units
