Biotechnology of Microalgae
Biotechnology of Microalgae
The aim of this subjet is to apply the knowledge acquired in the compulsory part of itinerary 1 "Bioprocesos y Biotecnología industrial" (bioprocesses and industrial biotechnology) to the design, development and operation of microalgae-based production bioprocesses.
The focus is placed in the design of light-limited photobioreactors, which is usually the bottleneck of these processes and the most difficult topic to find reliable information about. The developmets of molecular genetics are taken into account since these influence profoundly the microalgae based bioprocesses, becoming the key decission factor in a significant amount of design cases.
The possibilities of genetic-engineering microalgae and cyanobacteria for specific puposes is also discussed and its impact of this in process development explained.
