The use of insect exclusion screens in protected horticulture has become widespread in recent years due to the significant advantages obtained by its uses as physical method of crop protection. Nowadays manufacturers lack appropriate controls and tools to evaluate the efficacy of insect-proof screens and thus, offer farmers the most suitable agrotextil to suit their particular needs. However, the Laboratory of agrotextiles at the University of Almería has spent several years developing techniques to evaluate the efficacy of agrotextiles. We offer the following services:
Geometric characterisation of screens.
We can measure the characteristic dimensions of the insect-proof screen.
Aerodynamic behavior .We determine the aerodynamic behavior of the screens (resistance to airflow) by means of wind tunnel tests.
Test to determine the exclusion capacity of insect exclusion screens against various pest at different wind velocities.
Ligh transmission.
Our goal is to improve the quality of the agrotextiles.
