Computer Applications in English Teaching and Translation

Description

This course aims to familiarise students with basic translator's tools and appplications. Students will increasingly need to make use of the growing number of computer applications at the service of the English teaching and translation.

   The course is divided into two major thematic blocks:

Block I – Use of 'Hot Potatoes'

    ‣ Operational functioning of the five modalities of this application in the design of activities

     Déjà-vu, application operability and its production memories

Block II – Other computer and telematic applications for teaching and translation

Among the most important applications, the course will focus on:

     Electronic and online language courses

    ‣ Electronic and online tools for writing, grammar, oral English, reading, listening, vocabulary building,

      exams, games, chats, synonyms, ambiguous terms, Anglicisms

     Online dictionaries: DRAE, Oxford English Dictionary, Collocations dictionaries

    ‣ A Dictionary of Dictionaries: Onelook Dictionary

     Style books (El País, El Mundo, RTVE, EFE, Handbook of Academic style)
