The III AEDEI International Conference will be held at the University of Almería on 29th-31st May 2003. The conference aims at developing an interdisciplinary approach to the topic IRISH LANDSCAPES, both in a real and in an imagined sense.
The recognition and assessment of a place and the Irish reverential feeling for landscape have been deeply rooted constants in Irish life and history, as well as the multifold ways of displacement-emigration, exile, dispossession or alienation. However, at the beginning of this millennium Ireland has become rather a shifting “landscape of the mind”, both at home and away, which demands from us the acknowledgement of difference, hybridity and cultural mixing, and which has contributed to the current worldwide phenomenon of hibernization.
Papers are welcome from a broad range of disciplines including:
-Literary Studies
-Media and Film Studies
-Cultural Studies and Popular Culture
-Postcolonial Studies
-Gender Studies
-Critical Theory
Proposal for papers – in English or in Spanish – with a 150-word abstract should be sent as e-mail attachment to the conference coordinators (José Francisco Fernández Sánchez and Mª Elena Jaime de Pablos) before 1st February 2003. Final papers, which should not exceed 10 pages (20-25 minutes delivery) are due by 15th May. Please include a copy on diskette (Word or Word Perfect). A selection of papers will be published according to their thematic relevance to the conference.
