The workshop is intended to line out the scope and goals of the Research and Training Network based within the 6th European Community Framework, to inform about the current state of the research projects, and to discuss future activities. The meeting is open to all interested scientists and shall further provide an international forum to discuss the latest developments in the field of Arrested Soft Matter and Colloids. It shall focus on the dynamic aspects of arrest including experimental, theoretical and simulational approaches. It shall provide a platform to discuss recent achievements and future activities concerning glass transition, phase separation, aggregation and crystallisation. It shall also provide a forum for joint discussions about applications, and in particular focus on topics such as instrumental approaches to dense colloidal systems; the use of near arrested or highly viscous dispersions of small particles in making, or preparing precursors to amorphous materials, their applications (if ordered) as photonic crystals, optical switches; and the means of achieving ordering of these particles on surfaces and bulk, and the applications of this to, for example, protein crystallization.
