Conference participants are invited to attend this one-and-a-half day Symposium (May 30, afternoon and May 31 full day) dealing with applications in human health and nutrition of a range of bioactive molecules generated by microalgae.
The symposium is supported by the Spanish Foundation "Ramón Areces", and attendance is free of charge.
Health is undoubtedly the most interesting field, through a close collaboration of algal biotechnology with medical sciences, paying special attention to the more specific biomolecules from microalgae, such as antioxidants, pigments and long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids, and trying to promote their use in medicine, cosmetology and nutrition. The microalgae biotechnology offer to the health sector should be subject to scientific evaluation. This symposium is thus aimed to revise the applications of these aquatic and microscopic plants in health, cosmetology and nutrition, through the view and expertise of a limited group of experts with world-wide reputation, in order to achieve points of confluence between scientists belonging to such apparently separated fields.
The topics of the Symposium are:
IMPORTANCE
OF ALGAL BIOTECHNOLOGY IN MEDICINE
THE ROLE OF MICROALGAE IN HUMAN NUTRITION
APPLICATIONS OF NEW MICROALGAL PRODUCTS
The Symposium aims to bring together, for a fruitful discussion, experts in the above quoted fields with those in algal biotecnology. Discussion about the importance of microlgal products in human health will be discussed on basis of lectures released by reputed experts.
